The price of pork in Latvia declined 19.8% in May when compared to March. The price was EUR 152.2 per 100 kg, according to the latest information of the Latvian Agriculture Ministry’s Market and Direct Support Department.
Compared to May 2019, pork price in Latvia has declined on average by 18.8%.
At the same time, pork price in Lithuania declined 4.6% in May 2020 when compared to April and was EUR 149.5 per 100 kg, whereas in Estonia pork price increased 8.3% and was EUR 169.9 per 100 kg.
In the European Union the average pork price in May was EUR 162.3 per 100 kg, which is 10.2% lower when compared to April. In Germany pork price declined 9.8% over the course of the month and was EUR 170.1 per 100 kg. In Poland it declined 12.4% and was EUR 152.1 per 100 kg. In Denmark the pork price declined 7.3% and was EUR 180.7 per 100 kg.
Over the course of the year the pork price in the EU declined on average by 6%. In Denmark the price increased 9.4%, in Estonia – by 8.3%, whereas in Lithuania it declined 18.3%, in Poland it declined 14.6% and in Germany the price declined 6.6%.
Market development trends in the EU show that pork production is expected to increase in 2020 as long as export demand to Asia, especially China, remains high. It is expected EU export volumes will increase 12% in 2020.
