Customers at nearly three dozen Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Southern California will get the chance to try out its new meat-free nuggets beginning Monday, July 20.
KFC is partnering with Beyond Meat on Beyond Fried Chicken, a plant-based protein it says has the same flavors, texture, and pull-apart qualities as the meat it’s been selling by the bucket since the 1950s.
KFC will sell Beyond Fried Chicken nuggets in six or 12-piece combo meals or a la carte, according to a news release. Prices will start at $6.99 plus tax.
Plant-based beef has been a big restaurant trend for the last two years, with chains such as Carl’s Jr. and Burger King partnering with Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods on meat-free burgers and Del Taco offers meat-free tacos and burritos.
This year, Starbucks, Carl’s Jr., Burger King, and Dunkin’ introduced plant-based sausage in breakfast sandwiches.
The goal of these meals is to be as close to meat as possible. They are aimed at flexitarians, people who like meat but want to eat less of it for health or ethical reasons.
The following KFC restaurants will be serving Beyond Fried Chicken while supplies last.
