DC Comics Pokes Fun at Batman Forever's Villain's Real-Life Beef - Screen Rant

Tommy Lee Jones was famously not a huge fan of Jim Carrey and his antics on the set of Batman Forever. Now, DC Comics referenced the on-set tensions in one of the more hilarious callbacks in comics, as Poison Ivy uttered some iconic words apparently said by Jones to Carrey - and they weren't kind.

A few years ago, Carrey, who played the Riddler in the '90s Batman flick appeared on Norm MacDonald Live. The talented actor and comedian admitted to MacDonald that Jones, who played Two-Face, once reamed him out at a restaurant. According to Carrey, after approaching Jones, he was told, "I hate you. I really don't like you." When Carrey asked what the problem was, Jones allegedly told him "I cannot sanction your buffoonery." It's a pretty epic jab at Carrey and now that exact putdown is in the pages of DC Comics.

In the story "Indiana Quinn" by Joe Quinones, Clayton Cowles, and Andy Khouri in the most recent issue of the digital series Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red, Poison Ivy attempts to rob the Gotham Natural History Museum. After stealing the scroll containing leads to the Fountain of Youth, both Harley and Batman show up at the same time. Batman and Ivy accidentally rip the scroll after Harley hits the Dark Knight in the head with her mallet. Back at Ivy's apartment, she's not happy Harley interfered during the heist. That's when she tells Harley, "I cannot sanction your buffoonery."

Poison Ivy and Harley

The quote perfectly encapsulates Ivy's frustration at Harley - but is a surprising (and welcome) deep cut from previous Batman lore. Carrey's encounter with Jones is the stuff of legends, as the notoriously grumpy actor seemingly had no patience for Carrey - who was just coming off of Dumb and Dumber - on or off the set apparently. Carrey just had to kind of take it. It's no surprise the pair of iconic actors never teamed up for any additional projects in the more than 25 years since Batman: Forever came out.

Thankfully, Harley and Poison Ivy end the fun romp in each other's arms, as Harley comes in clutch for her girlfriend by the story's end after an encounter with the Caped Crusader. The DC Comics pair, unlike Carrey and Jones, squashed their beef quickly and enjoyed each other's company after making up. Maybe Carrey and Jones can learn a lesson here - although, it's doubtful either actor is rushing to do so.
