PIPESTONE — The University of Minnesota Extension will host a six-part webinar series, “Key Components of a Successful Beef Operation: Cow/Calf to Consumer,” during the month of August. Farmers, 4-H’ers, ag business professionals who work with farmers and anyone interested in beef cattle production are invited to attend.
Sessions are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each night. Dates and topics are as follows:
Aug. 12: Methods of pregnancy checking and preg-checking the cow herd to reduce the cost of open cows.
Aug. 13: Body condition scoring cows; early weaning calves; and assessing nutrition status of the cow herd.
Aug. 18: Managing forages for fall and winter feeding.
Aug. 20: Starting calves; and initial days on feed nutrition and implant strategies.
Aug. 25: Selecting the right animal for butcher.
Aug. 27: Keeping beef at the center of the plate; and bridging the farmer and consumer conversation.
Pre-registration is required at z.umn.edu/2020beefseries by 5 p.m. the day before each event. You will receive a Zoom link after registration closes. You only have to register once and you will be registered for all subsequent webinars. If you are unable to attend the live sessions, you will receive the recordings for all the sessions via email at the end of the series.
