An Amuse Bouche of “Confirming the Restaurant Is Open”
While Seattle’s end of days smoke situation should abate starting today, hostile air prompted many restaurants to close over the weekend, or at least shutter their patios. If you have any restaurant-related plans, check all the social medias or call directly to confirm food is still happening.
Candied Ribs and Collaborative Fried Chicken
Tracking the number of restaurant-within-a-restaurant popups happening right now could be a full-time job, but here’s a popup that’s popping up within another popup. Lenox, a self-described “Caribbean smokehouse” and maker of fine candied ribs has teamed up with newcomer phenom Cookie’s Country Chicken for a popup at Sneaky Tiki in Georgetown this Thursday, aka September 17. On the menu: candied ribs, pulled pork marinated in citrus and garlic, and a collaborative jerk fried chicken sandwich.
A Peripatetic Burrito
El Camion, go-to for burritos and other staple Mexican plates, is out of its location at Hale’s Ales in Ballard; according to My Ballard, it’s a liquor control board licensing situation. El Camion still operates its fleet of trucks around town; meanwhile, Hale’s will bring in a chef with a long track record of beer-centered cooking to take more of an upscale comfort food approach.
Delicate Pasta In the Great Outdoors
When eating outside is no longer physically harmful, I had a chance to check out the new Mezzanotte last week, and the patio adds a lovely new facet to Georgetown. The former Bar Ciudad space has a walled-in patio area bigger than plenty of actual restaurants. Its DNA as a partytimes hangout space is apparent in both the slushy drink menu and the thick layer of gravel on the ground; take heed if you’re sporting sandals or a particularly precious handbag. Jake Vorono’s pasta is a lovely counterpart to the slightly rugged outdoor situation, and is kind of the perfect outdoor meal as we shed summer and embrace the pretty part of fall.

And now for a grim slew of closure news: Farewell to Bar Sue on Capitol Hill; Bellevue’s Lot No. 3 and Purple locations, plus their event sibling Cast Iron Studios; and Silence Heart Nest, a vegetarian restaurant with more than three decades of history around Seattle.
