SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Beef Foundation announced its 2020 scholarship recipients. The Foundation recognizes the incredible talent of young beef industry enthusiasts and helps them achieve their educational goals.
“We have some truly spectacular young people worthy of recognition,” said Illinois Beef Foundation Chair Buzz Iliff. “I’m confident that each of these students will be a future positive contributor to the beef industry.”
The following will each receive a $1,000 scholarship:
Molly Biggs of Dixon is the daughter of David and Marianne Biggs. Biggs plans to attend Kansas State University and dual major in agricultural communications and animal science. She is actively involved in the Illinois Junior Beef Association, Illinois Junior Hereford Association and her local 4-H club. Biggs serves as student council president and is employed as show barn and sale help for cattle breeders in her area.
Maddie Fugate of Mahomet is the daughter of Eric and Julie Fugate. Fugate is a student at Iowa State University pursuing a degree in agricultural business. Fugate has held numerous leadership positions with her involvement in the Illinois Junior Beef Association, Illinois Junior Angus Association and the Illinois Junior Swine Association.
Tanner Mickey of Taylorville is the son of Jon and Carla Mickey. Mickey plans to attend Lake Land Community College and major in agricultural business. He is an active member of the Illinois Junior Beef Association, Illinois Junior Angus Association, Taylorville FFA and his local 4-H club. Mickey has had both state and national success in a variety of different livestock judging contests.
Jordan Oliver of Buncombe is the daughter of Michele and Cary Oliver. She plans to attend Lake Land Community College and major in agricultural education. Oliver balances academics with leadership involvement in the agriculture industry and is actively involved with the Illinois Junior Beef Association, Illinois Junior Angus Association, Illinois Junior Hereford Association, Illinois Junior Shorthorn Association, Illinois FFA and Illinois 4-H.
