Penn State Partners With PA Pork For 'Sack Hunger' Campaign - Onward State

Penn State Athletics is partnering with PA Pork once again this season to “sack” hunger across the state, the university announced Friday.

PA Pork will donate 50 pounds of pork — equivalent to about 200 servings — to Feeding Pennsylvania food banks for each Penn State sack recorded this season.

You can track the number of sacks, pounds of pork, and servings donated throughout the season using a nifty tracker on Penn State’s website.

Penn State football’s “Wild Dogs” accumulated 45 sacks last season. That would be good for 2,250 pounds of pork, or 9,000 servings, donated as part of this campaign.

One in eight Pennsylvania residents lacks food security. Feeding Pennsylvania-affiliated food banks are located in 67 counties in the state. The campaign will help feed over 1.5 million Pennsylvania residents in need, according to a release.

Penn State is no stranger to helping the hungry through its football program. Last year, the Nittany Lions provided frozen turkeys to those in need for every sack and offsides penalty generated.

The “Wild Dogs” will attempt to feast on opposing offenses this season and get their first chance against Micheal Penix Jr. and Indiana Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Bloomington is set for 3:30 pm on FS1.
