A local beef jerky producer has big plans for the new decade.
Pap's Beef Jerky is opening its first production plant later this month in Louisville, the company recently announced. The facility will open on Nov. 19 at 4790 Crittenden Drive, with a grand opening set for that morning.
"It is an exciting time at Pap’s," founder Jim Richardson said in a statement. "There are obstacles and challenges, but I cannot think of a better way to enter a new decade than with everyone here today."
A lot of work has gone into the new production plant. Pap's bought the building in late 2019 and spent the past year renovating the facility and installing an air purification system that will filter the air inside the plant eight times an hour, according to the release. With just nine workers at this time, Pap's also plans to hire several additional employees in the first few months of 2021.

Founded in Louisville in 2012, Pap's sells several flavors of beef jerky, including jerky seasoned with barbecue flavor used in Grippo's potato chips.
At the new facility, workers will marinate select cuts of beef before seasoning and slow-cooking it for hours to produce beef jerky. Bags are sold on the company's website for $7.99.
Some fans of Pap's Beef Jerky will be invited to the grand opening later this month as well. The first 20 people who visit the Pap's Facebook page and send it a private message stating "Talk jerky to me!" will receive an invitation to the event, according to the release.
