A dairy farm established in 1926 is now a farm where residents can purchase cuts of locally raised beef and pork.
Zimmerview Dairy Farm sold its 400 cows in June 2019 and transitioned into Zimmerview Farm Meats & Market, where they raise beef cattle.
“It was a big transition for us,” said Lisa McNish, one of the six co-owners.
She and her husband, Donny, co-own the market with her brother and his wife, Eric and Frankie Zimmer, and sister and her husband, Beth and James Giffin.
Eric explained two businesses are run from one farm.

“My dad (Dean Zimmer) and uncle (Brent Zimmer) still take care of the cattle and crops,” he said.
The cattle are fed conventional, which means they are fed with crops raised on the farm, he added.
When it was no longer possible to run a dairy farm, Eric said there was nothing they could do financially but take full-time jobs off the farm.
“That’s the biggest hurdle for us right now. We’re not here all the time, as we work full-time jobs, so we try to do it on Saturdays and we meet people after we’re off work,” Eric said.
McNish said their family is well-known in the community, so they wanted to find a way to provide the community with fresh local meat.
“We’ve had a lot of people say ‘we’re really glad you’re doing this.’ One lady stops in every week and picks up a couple of pieces and talks to us,” Eric said.
The meat from their Angus and Hereford cows is sold exclusively through their market, and Eric said they would have to get special licenses to be able to sell anywhere else.
All of the cattle are raised on their farm and the hogs are sourced locally, McNish said.
They have a wide selection of meat to choose from at their market, and people can order online from their website, zimmerviewfarm.com
“We have pork and beef … pretty much every cut of pork and beef you can think of,” Eric said. “You can order online at any time. We always tell people that since we’re only open on Saturdays, you can call and make an appointment.”
The store front is open Saturday from 9a.m.-1 p.m. or by calling 740-336-6856 to set up an appointment.
Some of the beef cuts for sale are hamburger, steaks, roasts, brisket and short ribs, while pork cuts include sausage and pork chops. Combination packages of pork and beef are also available.
They said there are 800 to 900 head of cattle, although not all are ready for sale.
“A very small portion of what we raise is used for the market. The rest is sold into the regular meat market,” Eric said.
