TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —In a time where food insecurity is at a high, Agri Beef a future Magic Valley resident is making a generous end of the year donation to the Idaho Foodbank. KMVT spoke with them as they explain what this means for food insecure families looking to put food on the table for the holiday.
Agri Beef spearheads a statewide initiative known as Beef Counts, which provides protein to food insecure Idahoans.
“We want to help Idahoans,” said Karen Vauk the CEO of the Idaho Foodbank. “We want to help them have the food that they need and make sure it is nourishing food, and that is exactly what we are able to provide today through the beef council program.”
This year is the 10th year anniversary of this initiative, In honor of it Agri Beef has donated $25,000 dollars’ worth of beef to the Idaho Food Bank to give neighbors in need strength to get through a tough time, along with the opportunity to share a special meal with their families as they ring in the new year.
“There is so much ongoing need in our communities due to the pandemic,” said Melissa Delgadillo Agri Beef PR manager. “We felt it was really important to make a year-end donation so that families can continue to have beef protein on their tables at the beginning of year and throughout January.”
Since 2010, the Beef Counts program has provided over 1.7 million servings of beef to the Idaho Foodbank. Agri Beef will soon be part of the Magic Valley as they recently broke ground on a new beef processing plant in November in Jerome on highway 93 known as True West Beef. The processing facility is set to bring 350 plus jobs to the Magic Valley.
“We want to step forward as Agri Beef and with our industry partners to focus on the need going forward,” said Jay Theiler, executive VP of strategy and PR at Agri Beef.
