NASCAR offers naming right sponsorships for nearly every race it runs, leading to delightfully strange combinations like the GoBowling 235 and the Crown Royal Presents Your Hero's Name Here 400 At The Brickyard Powered By BigMachineRecords.com. Today, however, NASCAR announced what may very well be the greatest event name in auto racing history: The Beef. It's What's For Dinner. 300.

The event will also be called the Beef 300, perhaps because two sentences is too many for the title of an auto race. The race is sponsored by the American beef lobby, which owns both the Twitter handle @beef and the coveted URL beefitswhatsfordinner.com. The organization's goal in sponsoring the Beef. It's What's For Dinner. 300 is to get the word out about beef, one of the commonest food items in America. They join a grand tradition of names for this particular event, the first Xfinity Series race of the season:

Deputy editor Bob Sorokanich: I've spent five minutes thinking about it and I think the punctuation they went with is ultimately correct. You can't go calling it the Beef It's What's For Dinner 300 with no periods, nor can you be expected to play the sucker's gambit and just do one period.
Opinions on the Beef 300 are split, but one thing is for sure: It's what's for dinner.
