The Wyoming Beef Council increased the reach of its beef promotions to Japan and the five most populated states in the U.S. during fiscal 2020, according to the Council’s recently released annual report.
The Council also reported activities promoting beef in Wyoming by actively sharing beef’s nutrition and production story.
The report, which covers the period from July 1, 20198 to June 30, 2020, highlights the impact of national and state programs on increasing beef demand domestically and internationally. The Wyoming Beef Council works on behalf of cattle producers in Wyoming through promotion, education and research.
The Council’s programs are funded by the $1 per head checkoff collected on all Wyoming cattle when they are sold. Fifty cents of every checkoff dollar goes to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board in Denver, which oversees checkoff programs. The remaining 50 cents is used at the discretion of the members of the Council for state, national and international programs.
Ann Wittman, who’s executive director of the Beef Council, said the Council works very hard to invest checkoff funds in the most cost-effective ways to have the greatest impact on target markets.
The fiscal 2020 efforts included promotions in Japan and the states of California, Florida, New York, Illinois and Pennsylvania. Promotions in Japan resulted in an over 17 percent increase in sales of beef over the same period the previous year.
