Paddle To Pork Features Pretty Little Goat, Unspoken Tradition - The Transylvania Times

Headwaters Outfitters is hosting its 4th Annual Paddle to the Pork outdoor concert on March 20 at their river property located at the intersection of Green Road and Hannah Ford Road.

The event features legendary local barbeque and outstanding live music near the headwaters of one of the oldest rivers on the planet.

Pretty Little Goat has served as the host band for this event each year, offering music that makes listeners feel right at home in the mountains. In 2018, Blue Ridge Now called them "WNC's most authentic string band." Over the past seven years, Pretty Little Goat has demonstrated authenticity beyond the notes they play. Their music is made for and inspired by the local community. People will often find members of this band jamming with old-timers, playing fundraiser concerts, and teaching local youth.

Each year, a different act has joined Pretty Little Goat on the stage, including local legends Jerry Sapp and Nikki Talley. This year, Paddle to the Pork is honored to welcome bluegrass powerhouse Unspoken Tradition. Blue-grass Unlimited calls them "as hard-driving as the bands of yesteryear" but with a "new approach." With these newer influences, and love for the roots of traditional music, they bring a sound that is both impassioned and nostalgic, yet sincere. Their 2019 release from Mountain Home Music Company, "Myths We Tell Our Young," debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Bluegrass charts and has seen 5 top-charting radio singles, including a No. 1 spot on the Bluegrass Today chart for "Dark Side of the Mountain." Their material is mostly original and reflects the ever-changing culture of Western and central North Carolina where they call home. As one radio DJ put it, Unspoken Tradition's "virtuosic, flowing music is truly made for dancing outside in a live setting."

Due to the COVID-19 circumstances, the event is a drive-in concert this year. Every car gets its own marked out "tailgate bubble" with plenty of space and fresh air for everyone.

"It's safer than going to the grocery store if you're worried about COVID-19," said Josh Carter of Pretty Little Goat.

Tickets can be purchased at Headwaters Outfitters in Rosman, or online at Eventbrite.com. Just search for "Paddle to the Pork- Spring Edition."
