National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is excited to be holding the World Pork Expo this June after a two-year hiatus and will take all appropriate actions necessary to support both human and animal health, NPPC President Jen Sorenson said during a recent conference call. The event, which is the world's largest industry specific trade show, is scheduled for June 9-11 and will be held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Sorenson said the decision to hold the event “did not come lightly” and “was very carefully considered” based on feedback from many in the industry. Additionally, NPPC’s board of directors as well as Iowa officials were consulted and included in making the decision.

The event is the industry’s biggest, Sorenson said, adding, “It is a place where producers and industry participants get together and do business.” Attendees look at new products, adopt innovation, learn from each other and network.

To make it possible, Sorenson said NPPC continues to monitor appropriate safety measures in accordance with federal, state, and local guidance. “I'm committed to remaining vigilant in monitoring conditions and responding accordingly.”

As for what attendees can expect during the event, Jim Monroe, assistant vice president of communications, said there are some safety measures already established for the event. For example, the trade show will be more spread out with barriers between exhibit spaces and hand washing and sanitizing stations will be present throughout the grounds. Additionally, Monroe said they will urge other practices recommended by the CDC.

The 2021 Expo will be filled with three full days of learning, networking and activities. More than 15 educational seminars are included in your admission cost. seminars include information on current issues and topics related to the pork industry, showcasing the latest product enhancements and more.

Other activities you won’t want to miss include:

  • Trade Show — Check out the many vendors showcasing new products and services.
  • NPPC Hospitality Tent — Visit one-on-one with NPPC board members and staff to learn about current legislation, regulation and public policy issues that impact pork production.
  • Big Grill — Stop by and enjoy a free pork lunch during all three days of the Expo. More than 10,000 lunches are served! Lunches are available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Guests enjoyed exploring more than 360,000 square feet of exhibitions and interacted with more than 500 companies at the 2018 World Pork Expo.
