*NEW* Red-stewed Beef Rice Bowl – $9.50

This bowl is brimming with braised tender meat. There is a level of spice to it that brings an interesting flavor to the dish.

It’s a good serving size, but the weaker of the two bowls.

*NEW* Curry Chicken Rice Bowl – $8.00

Curry Chicken Rice Bowl – $8.00

This is great. It’s braised thigh meat so it’s a little fatty but very tender. There was a nice curry flavor.

They did dump a huge spoonful of red pepper flakes on it, so beware of that. But it was tasty and a good serving size. We would get it again.

*NEW* House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons – $6.00

House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons – $6.00

The wontons are fine, but they didn’t have a lot of crab. You get two wontons for the price, and they’re pretty tasty, so if you’re in the mood for these, we wouldn’t discourage it.

*NEW* “Panda” Bubble Tea: Classic Milk Tea with Black and White Bobas – $7.50

This milk tea is fantastic. It’s sweet, but not overly so, and the boba pearls provide a licorice-like flavor to counter the milk.

Tsingtao Beer (4.7% ABV) – $4.75 (6 oz) / $8.25 (12 oz)

Untappd says: “Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character.”

Jasmine Draft Beer – $5.00 (6 oz) / $8.50 (12 oz)

Epcot Food and Wine 2018 China
Jasmine Draft Beer – $5.00 (6 oz) / $8.50 (12 oz)

Surprise! This one’s not brewed in China—or even made there! In fact, it’s brewed locally in Florida with a slapped-on Jasmine name, sort of like how local brewery Crooked Can made a unique draft for Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs. It’s a straightforward, unfiltered wheat beer with a small floral hint. Very drinkable, and we believe this is the only spot to actually get this beer.

Dragonfly: Jose Cuervo Tequila Gold ($18/bottle), Vodka, Mango Syrup and Orange Juice – $13.00

Dragonfly: Jose Cuervo Tequila Gold ($18/bottle), Vodka, Mango Syrup and Orange Juice – $13.00

You can ignite your taste buds with this drink, with Jose Cuervo Tequila Gold, vodka, mango syrup and orange juice.

Dragonfly: Jose Cuervo Tequila Gold ($18/bottle), Vodka, Mango Syrup and Orange Juice – $13.00

Connoisseurs of Jose Cuervo will definitely know that this is Gold tequila instead of Silver, as the taste is very prevalent. It’s also a sweet drink with lots of mango flavor. Overall, we found it yummy and refreshing.

Marco Boba: Amaretto, Iced Coffee, Milk and Boba – $12.50

Marco Boba: Amaretto, Iced Coffee, Milk and Boba – $12.50

To be honest, this drink tastes mostly like coffee. We didn’t get much of the amaretto flavor, but to be fair, it’s a very subtle flavor. That being said, you can definitely taste the alcohol in this one. In fact, all three of the beverages we tried had heavy alcohol pours.

The Lucky Mo: Peach Schnapps, Peach Syrup, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice and Coconut Milk – $12.50

The Lucky Mo: Peach Schnapps, Peach Syrup, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice and Coconut Milk – $12.50

We definitely felt lucky with this drink. It’s made with peach schnapps, peach syrup, orange juice, pineapple juice, and coconut milk, and you can taste every flavor, though it’s heavy on the peach and pineapple. We found it to be very refreshing and delicious.

Norwalk stores say they set up COVID-19 precautions to protect shoppers during Black Friday.

The SoNo Collection says it has several ways shoppers can cash in on Black Friday deals, and, anticipating a crowd, general manager Matt Seeback says the mall launched a spot saver to help.

Early bird shoppers say they saw no lines. Seeback says shoppers will notice extra security and cleaning crews throughout the mall this weekend.

He says that the store has also asked shoppers to keep to one side as they shop, allowing for social distance.

Seeback says the store will also provide you with a mask if you don't have one.

Retailers could face a $100 fine if an employee is caught without wearing a mask.

NMSU researchers study sustainable beef production - KRQE News 13

meat.indah.link

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Researchers at New Mexico State University predict more obstacles are on the way for ranchers in the southwest due to climate change. But they’re hoping a new study will take some of the strain off ranchers and create new options for them.

Researchers at NMSU say recurring droughts will only make raising cattle in the southwest more difficult. “Most of the climate models predict that droughts will become more frequent than they have been in the past that we will see more extreme weather,” says Range Science Professor Andres Cibils.

Cibils says over the past 50 years, temperatures have gotten warmer, and forage production has declined by 45 percent at NMSU test sites. “The profit margins are very very slim. The way that people have been doing business for the past many years could basically result in the cutting into the already very slim margins,” Cibils says.

Cibils says the goal of their research is to make beef production in the southwest ecologically and financially sustainable long term. One approach to that is cross-breeding commercial beef bulls Criollo cattle, potentially breed calves that thrive in the southwest climate. “They seem to approach the problem of grazing and foraging in an environment like this one differently than many of the commercial breeds that we are used to working with,” Cibils says.

The first cohort of calves is at the Clayton livestock research center for backgrounding. then taste panels done at Texas A&M will determine how the crossbred beef compares to other commercial beef. Cibils hopes the study will give ranchers more freedom, so they aren’t constrained to one supply chain. “We don’t expect that this will be a silver bullet but it’s another option,” Cibils says.

This is a five-year-long study and at the end of it, researchers will have bred- nearly 400 calves. Which they will sell to ranchers in New Mexico and across the southwest.

Government finds danger of botulism in bottled beef, chicken sold by individual - Food Safety News

meat.indah.link

Unlabeled bottled beef and chicken is being recalled because government tests showed a risk of the toxin that causes botulism poisoning.

Produced by a man on Prince Edward Island in Canada, the bottled chicken and bottled beef do not have any identifying marks or labels.

Robert Waite of Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, sold the bottled beef and chicken directly to consumers via classified ads in newspapers, according to the recall notice posted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

“This warning was triggered by CFIA test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of these or other products,” the recall notice states.

The CFIA is urging people to check their homes for the beef and chicken products and throw them away immediately if they have them on hand.

As of the posting of the recall notice there hadn’t been any reported illness related to the recalled products.

About botulism

While a variety of illnesses can result from eating under-processed food, one of the most dangerous is botulism poisoning. Untreated, botulism can paralyze the muscles needed for breathing, resulting in sudden death.

Anyone who has eaten any recalled products and developed signs of botulism poisoning should immediately seek medical attention, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“In foodborne botulism, symptoms generally begin 18 to 36 hours after eating contaminated food. However, symptoms can begin as soon as 6 hours after or up to 10 days later,” according to the CDC website.

The symptoms of botulism may include some of all of the following: double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, a thick-feeling tongue, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. People with botulism poisoning may not show all of these symptoms at once.

These symptoms result from muscle paralysis caused by the toxin. If untreated, the disease may progress, and symptoms may worsen to cause paralysis of specific muscles, including those used in breathing and those in the arms, legs, and the body from the neck to the pelvis area.

Wild video shows Taiwanese lawmakers throw pig guts in feud over US pork imports - New York Post

meat.indah.link

Pig guts and punches flew in a wild brawl between Taiwanese lawmakers Friday over the easing of US pork imports.

Members of the country’s main opposition party Kuomintang (KMT) hurled buckets of the innards toward Premier Su Tseng-chang to protest the decision to allow the import of US pork containing ractopamine, an additive that enhances leanness but is banned from more than 100 countries.

Footage showed some of the members sporting rain jackets to dump the swine guts as opposing lawmakers attempted to form a protective barrier around Su.

Some also exchanged punches in the brief but heated encounter with Chen Po-wei from the small Taiwan Statebuilding Party.

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Friday slammed the gory protest, saying it was a waste of food that “stank up” the parliament floor and was “disgusting.”

But the KMT has defended the messy ordeal, claiming the decision to import pork was rushed and is a health threat.

“In order to protect people’s health and protect the bottom line of food safety, the opposition party cannot but resist,” the party said in a statement.

Low levels of antimicrobial resistant bacteria E. coli in beef and pork sold in UK - Food Safety News

meat.indah.link

Levels of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) E. coli in fresh beef and pork are still low, according to a survey published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The study, which was run between January and December 2019, focused on beef and pork. In total, 315 beef and 313 pork samples were collected and tested at retail in the United Kingdom.

Because of a technical issue with selective agar (culture growth medium) affecting some samples tested in December, it was decided to exclude all meat samples in that month from analysis.

Use of antibiotics is important in treating infections and preventing disease in animals and humans. However, overuse or misuse of antimicrobials in animal husbandry and healthcare is linked to the emergence and spread of microorganisms which are resistant to them, making treatment ineffective and posing a risk to public health, according to health officials and researchers..

Low levels detected
Mandatory requirements are set in European regulation for member states to report AMR data for Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, indicator commensal E. coli, AmpC and extended-spectrum betalactamase (ESBL) E. coli and carbapenemase producing E. coli.

Less than 1 percent of samples had E. coli with the types of AMR being monitored. Only one of the 289 beef samples and three of 285 pork samples were positive for AmpC- or ESBL-producing E. coli. None of the counts of E. coli in beef and pork were above the detection limit of 100 bacteria per gram of meat on the two agars used.

No carbapenemase-resistant and colistin-resistant E. coli were found in any samples. These are considered critically important antibiotics. None of the isolates were resistant to chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, gentamycin, nalidixic acid, temocillin or tigecycline.

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) worked with Hallmark Veterinary Compliance Services, who arranged sampling, collection and posting of retail meat samples to APHA.

Meat samples came mainly from the UK, but also from Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, the EU (country not stated), France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands and Spain. The second highest number of beef samples came from Ireland, whilst the second most pork samples were from Germany.

Across the UK, evidence shows the levels of AmpC-/ESBL-phenotype E. coli in beef and pork have remained at a low stable level in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Findings compare favorably to results published by the European Food Safety Authority from other countries that did EU monitoring surveys in 2015 and 2017.

Research to fill evidence gap
Paul Cook, FSA’s science lead in microbiological risk assessment, said the results were reassuring.

“We will continue our work to fill the evidence gap of the role that food plays in antimicrobial resistance. The risk of getting AMR-related infections through the consumption and handling of contaminated meat is very low, as long as you follow good hygiene and cooking practices,” he said.

FSA has a tender open for a survey of Salmonella, E. coli and AMR in frozen, part-cooked breaded or battered poultry products at retail sale in the UK. The deadline is Dec. 11, 2020.

A research project started in July this year is attempting to create a set of templates for AMR risk assessment in the chicken and lettuce supply chain. The work by Ausvet Europe will enable the FSA to produce more efficient and reproducible AMR risk assessments within foods. It is set for completion in January 2022.

Another project is sampling 165 biofilms from secondary meat processing facilities. Data will be used to estimate the contribution of biofilms in meat processing plants to the AMR burden. This work is being done by Fera Science until June 2022.
