Ever since Filipino chain Jollibee officially opened its first DFW location in Plano, the restaurant has been completely inundated with fried chicken enthusiasts who are waiting in line for hours to get their hands on sweet spaghetti and “Chickenjoy.”

Starting on August 20, when the restaurant first opened its doors, Jollibee fans have driven from all over DFW and beyond to wait in the drive-thru line for their first taste of fried chicken. On its first day of business, some chicken fans were lined up at 4 a.m., well in advance of the restaurant’s 8 a.m. opening time. Others sat in a punishing drive-thru line for more than four hours trying to order fried chicken and mango-peach pies, with lines of cars wrapping around the building and spilling out onto the nearby highway.

“It finally opened its Dallas-Fort Worth branch located at Plano and how long did we wait? Almost 4 hours and I don’t care because that is my childhood right there so waiting for this meal from my favorite restaurant in the world is worth it and we absolutely enjoyed the experience,” wrote one user on Instagram.

And of course, the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t making the crowds any easier to manage. Right now, Jollibee’s dining room is closed, which means that workers can only serve patrons through its drive-thru window. The chain has also implemented buying limits to ensure that as many people can get their hands on Jollibee as possible each day. A sign posted to the restaurant’s drive-thru menu indicates that each patron is limited to no more than 20 pieces of “Chickenjoy” and a maximum of 10 peach-mango pies.
