Lou Martin will be the first to tell you that Guy Fieri helped put his fried chicken on the map.
Uncle Lou’s Fried Chicken first appeared on Fieri’s Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2008.
Over the years, Martin has recounted the story of how when Fieri took a bite of his now-famous fried chicken and said, “You should call this ‘Sweet Spicy Love!’”
Since that day, Martin’s secret family recipe for fried chicken has held the moniker of “Sweet Spicy Love.”
On Friday, Martin will be back on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”
Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show has a slightly different format these days. Fieri takes viewers on a virtual culinary tour around the country sharing recipes from his favorite stops.
Martin, along with three other chefs from across the country, will be virtually teaching Fieri and the show’s audience how to make a dish.
Martin will share the recipe for Uncle Lou’s Jumbo Chicken Tender Sandwich.
The show’s production team was in Memphis in May to shoot the episode with the theme of "Bringing Comfort Home."
All four featured chefs have sent Fieri ingredients for their “most-off-the-hook” recipes. They join Fieri and his assistant Hunter Fieri via video chat to cook up all that flavor.
The menu features gourmet grilled cheese from Nashville, pizza from Boulder, Colorado, Greek kebabs out of Houston, Texas, and Uncle Lou’s Fried Chicken in Memphis.
The episode will air at 8 p.m. Friday.
